Cynthia Hatten Unglesbee is a lifelong resident of Carroll County, having graduated from North Carroll High School.  She received her bachelor's degree from Hood College in 1995 and her law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1999. Cynthia previously held the position of Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Raymond E. Beck, Sr. of the Circuit Court for Carroll County, Maryland.  Here she gained valuable experience in the working of the Court system and performed legal research and assisted in the writing of judicial opinions.

Her skills are much sought after and she has extensive experience in litigating divorce and child custody matters. Cindy has been named a Maryland Super Lawyer by Baltimore Magazine.

Paul is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County campus, and the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, located in Washington, D.C. After completing law school, he worked for a year in the defense industry as a contracts administrator for the Westinghouse Defense Company, now the Northrop Grumman Corporation.

Paul lives and works in Carroll County, Maryland.  Over the years he concentrated his practice in the areas of Family law, Mediation, Criminal law, DUI/DWI defense, Wills and Estate Planning, and Estate Administration. Paul has been named a Maryland Super Lawyer by Baltimore Magazine.  The Super Lawyer Award is based on attaining a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.  It is only awarded to five percent of Maryland lawyers.

Our practice in the area of Family Law includes litigation and the negotiation and preparation of marital settlement and parenting agreements, pre-nuptial agreements, handling all aspects of divorce, child custody and support, child access, alimony, and the division of marital property.

Paul also has an extensive Family Law Mediation practice to help people avoid the financial and emotional hardships of litigation..  Paul currently conducts over 150 family law mediations per year, with most reaching an amicable resolution. Mediation can help resolve issues concerning children, as well as financial and property issues.  In addition to conducting private mediations, Paul has been appointed by the Circuit Court for Carroll County to serve as a Family Law Mediator for over 20 years, to assist litigants with the successful and amicable resolution of their divorce and family law cases. In divorce cases and other family law matters, the parties, through mediation, can almost always come up with a better resolution than will result from litigation. Mediation is a wonderful way of coming to an amicable resolution of important issues, rather than having a judge or hearing master dictate a resolution to you.

In our Estate Planning practice, we will work with you in preparing your estate plan, including the preparation of your Last Will and Testament, Financial Power of Attorney, Advanced Directive Appointing a Healthcare Agent, and the Living Will.  We will assist you in the decision-making process of naming those people who will be responsible to assist you when needed. We also have extensive experience in the Administration of Estates.  We help families after the loss of a loved one see to it that the estate plan is carried out, including assisting with the appraisal and sale of assets, such as homes and vehicles.  We then see to it that the deceased's assets are distributed according to their estate plan.

We also practice extensively in the areas of Criminal Defense Law, including defending people charged with all felonies and misdemeanors, including DUI/DWI's.  Paul is an effective litigator, including successful jury trial experience.

Not only a litigator, Paul serves as both a private mediator and as a mediator appointed by the Circuit Court for Carroll County, Maryland. He has successfully helped parties resolve thousands of family law cases, thus avoiding expensive and protracted litigation.  As a private mediator, he will generally meet with the parties prior to any litigation being commenced and assist the parties in resolving their dispute without court intervention.  As a Court appointed mediator for the Carroll County Circuit Court, Paul mediates cases sent to him pursuant to Court Order and can help parties settle their case before the litigation becomes prolonged.  Many lawyers who hold themselves out to be a mediator have received little or no training in this area.  Don't be fooled.  Feel free to ask Paul about his training or about the thousands of cases he has helped bring to a successful and amicable resolution.

Cindy also continues to serve as Settlement Officers for Family Law cases, a position that requires extensive knowledge of the law and of likely outcome in contested cases.  She utilizes her knowledge and experience to help parties resolve their cases amicably and without further litigation.
